Autism Waiver Maryland
Designed to Help Children Stay Safe at Home
Waiver Services
Caring for a child with autism can be challenging and, at times, overwhelming for a family. The Maryland Autism Waiver offers vital support to families navigating these challenges.
Designed to help children stay safe at home and in the community, the waiver also benefits the entire family. It provides high-quality services that promote independence, teach new skills, and reduce behaviors that interfere with learning and development.
The Autism Waiver program is more than just a source of care. It’s a lifeline for children and youth on the autism spectrum. By offering meaningful support, it helps families build a better quality of life.
Services may include therapy, respite care, social skills training, assistive technology, and other valuable resources.
How to Qualify for the Maryland Autism Waiver
1 |
Diagnosis — A qualified healthcare professional must provide a documented diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). |
2 |
Age — The program serves children and young adults from age 5 through 21. |
3 |
Residency — Applicants must be Maryland residents. |
4 |
Functional Limitations — Eligibility is based on functional limitations related to autism. A healthcare professional may need to provide a recommendation detailing the severity of these limitations and the necessary support. |
5 |
Medicaid Eligibility — The individual must qualify for Medicaid, which helps cover the cost of waiver services and reduces financial strain on families. |
Eligibility requirements may vary, so it’s best to check the Maryland Department of Health or Maryland Medicaid websites for the most up-to-date details on the application process.

The Trellis Difference
