At The Trellis School, a state-approved private school in Sparks, Maryland, we provide evidence-based education and therapy tailored to children with autism from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Using applied behavior analysis (ABA), we help students with autism and language-related challenges develop communication, social, and learning skills in a supportive environment, giving every child the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
The Trellis School is also part of LEARN Behavioral, a national organization dedicated to providing evidence-based, individualized educational and therapeutic services for children with autism and other special needs. As part of LEARN Behavioral, the school benefits from a network of resources, expertise, and support, allowing us to enhance our ABA programs, staff training, and overall educational offerings to better serve students and their families.

Our School’s Learning Approach
We help students build the skills they need to succeed at every stage — academically, socially, and in daily life. Learning happens through a mix of structured lessons, hands-on activities, and real-world experiences.
At every level, we help students gain confidence and skills for a successful future.
Elementary School (Grades K-5)
Students develop strong learning, social, and play skills through a mix of guided instruction and play-based learning.
- Primary (K-2): Students begin group learning in subjects such as social studies and science while practicing independent work.
- Intermediate (3-5): Students spend more time in group lessons, one-on-one instruction, and independent work. They also take on classroom jobs and participate in school activities and field trips.
Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Students expand their academic, social, and life skills while preparing for more independence.
- They learn core subjects along with daily living and pre-vocational skills.
- Students take more responsibility for tasks such as preparing lunch, navigating the school, and self-care.
- They also contribute to the school community with school-wide jobs.
High School (Grades 9-12)
Students focus on real-world skills to prepare for adulthood.
- Lessons strengthen reading, writing, and math.
- Social and communication skills support job readiness.
- Pre-vocational and vocational training, based on student interests, takes place in school and in the community.
